City of Saskatoon Contemplating Changes to Sign Regulations – Phase Two Review Underway

The City of Saskatoon is moving forward with Phase Two of its Sign Regulations Review, with a focus on digital billboards and project development signs. This phase aims to modernize these categories to address traffic safety, sign clutter, light pollution, and better align permitting processes.

Key proposed changes include:

  • Making digital signs discretionary uses with more intensive review.
  • Imposing maximum brightness limits and curfews for digital signs near residential and natural areas.
  • Restricting digital sign content (e.g., no flashing images or live video).
  • Introducing separation distances between signs and sensitive land uses.
  • Defining and regulating real estate and contractor signs.
  • Creating a tiered structure for project development signs based on size, type, and zoning.

An Open House will be held Thursday, June 19, 2025 | 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Saskatoon Field House – Concession Area, 2020 College Drive, Saskatoon, SK.

This is an opportunity for the sign industry and the public to learn more and provide input.

Members are encouraged to attend. The City looks forward to speaking with you and is available by phone, email or through our Engage Page, where project updates will be provided and a link to the Zoning Bylaw can be found (the Sign Regulations can be found in Appendix A to the bylaw). Again, we urge all members to take note and participate where possible—these changes may impact future sign projects in the city.
