In our continued attempt to keep our members informed on jurisdictional changes, the Sign Association of Canada attended the City of Toronto meeting on July 3rd, 2024. This meeting was crucial as it focused on the recent amendments to the Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 694, which concerns signs. The primary objectives of the meeting were to discuss these amendments, their impacts, and the changes to the application processes.

Key Discussions:

  1. Processing of Applications:
    • The provisions for processing applications for amendments and variances to the Sign By-law were modified.
  2. Delegation of Authority:
    • Update to the authority of the Chief Building Official and Executive Director of Toronto Building.
  3. Deletion of Criteria:
    • The criteria listed in Subsection 694-30A (2) were deleted and renumbered.
