Effective February 16, 2026, the City of Toronto requires building permit applications, including sign permit applications, to use the updated Application for a Permit to Construct or Demolish form. The City’s First Party and Third Party Sign Permit pages both direct applicants to use the latest version of the form.
This is separate from the City’s Declaration Form for Overhead Electrical Conductors requirement. The updated permit application form is part of the core sign permit submission package.
What Sign Companies Should Know
For a First Party Sign Permit, the City requires the updated Application for a Permit to Construct or Demolish along with the First Party Sign Permit Application, owner authorization, and required drawings.
For a Third Party Sign Permit, the City requires the updated Application for a Permit to Construct or Demolish along with the Third Party Sign Permit Application and other required supporting documents. Depending on the project, additional forms may include Schedule 1: Designer Information, a Tree Declaration, a Commitment to General Review, and the Declaration Form for Overhead Electrical Conductors.
Applications are submitted electronically, and the City recommends checking the current sign permit page and Forms Index before submitting to ensure that the latest forms are being used.
